Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association Continues To Partner With The State Parks Department To Keep Anderson Marsh State Historic Park Open To The Public

Anderson

Through the years, AMIA has worked to protect the special and unique place we call Anderson Marsh and to share its beauty and its cultural and historic significance with the many people who visit the Park each year.

In 2011, Anderson Marsh State Historic Park was one of the 70 California State Parks that was scheduled to be closed to the public. Thanks to a Partnership Agreement between AMIA and the State Parks Department, the Park remained open to the public, and the unique cultural, historic and natural resources found there remained protected.

In 2016, the furniture and other exhibits found in the Anderson Ranch House had to be evacuated due to the approach of the disastrous Clayton Fire that devastated the nearby town of Lower Lake. Although the fire burned into Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, it was stopped before it reached the Ranch House, which was not damaged by the fire, There remained, however, the task of cleaning the interior of the house and the furniture and exhibits it contained, and of ensuring a plan for continuing to maintain the Ranch House and its historic exhibits. Unfortunately, funds to do this were not forthcoming from the state.

In 2017, in order to re-open the Ranch House to public tours and events, AMIA has entered into an agreement with State Parks under which AMIA will clean and maintain the interior of the Ranch House on an ongoing basis, allowing it once more to be reopened to public tours and events such as Christmas at the Ranch.

All donations to the Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association (AMIA) will help AMIA meet its financial obligations under this new agreement with the State, as well as supporting AMIA’s interpretive programs, including restoration work, creation of Native American interpretive exhibits, trail development, cultural and natural resource preservation and AMIA’s guided nature walks, ranch house tours and school and senior field trips.

Please help AMIA raise the money it needs to fund its agreements with State Parks and keep its programs going. AMIA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charitable association cooperating with the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation. It was formed in 1984, after the State of California acquired the park in 1982.
